Research Methods for Practice-Based Doctorates in the Creative Arts - Passion and judgment in practice-based research (0r: how not to lose your practice through research)
AHRC Residential Workshop, Gregynog, Powys 16th - 18th April 2008 The workshop is the latest in a programme of events designed to set up a training and development network in practice-based postgraduate research. The whole programme is focussed on developing the specific practical and theoretical skills required in the planning, conduct and analysis of practice-based research. This event will deal with the methodological aspects of planning and management of practice-based research. The core of the workshop will involve a "Methodology Masterclass", in which participants will be able to present their research strategies and their work-in-progress for critique by their colleagues and by a panel of expert doctoral supervisors. Other sessions include: The limits of my practice: how the concept of self informs notions of art and knowledge (Clive Cazeaux ) The event takes place at Gregynog House, near Newtown, Powys. Gregynog is the University of Wales' Residential Conference Centre. The programme is open to postgraduate students wishing to focus on practice-based research. Participation is free, including accommodation and meals. Registered postgraduate students from Wales may be eligible for assistance with travel expenses. Syniad Da: AHRC Programme on Supervising Practice-Based Research Residential Workshop 30th October - 1st November 2007 This is the latest in a series designed to set up a training and development network for supervisors of practice-based postgraduate research degrees. It is open to current or potential research degree supervisors wishing to focus on practice-based research. The workshop will focus on supervision issues related to definition and management of doctoral quality in practice-based research in the arts and media. We will examine the role of "rites of passage", such as the MPhil to PhD transfer process.
